VPN for Chromebook
A Chromebook can run VPNmine two ways, both free. The Chrome extension installs from the Chrome Web Store and covers browsing, which on ChromeOS is most of what the machine does. Chromebooks with the Play Store can install the Android app instead, which carries the tunnel at system level.

How to set it up on a Chromebook
Add the Chrome extension
Use the button above — ChromeOS installs Chrome Web Store extensions exactly as desktop Chrome does. Pin it, pick a country, and browsing routes through the tunnel.
Or install the Android app
On Chromebooks with the Play Store, install VPNmine from Google Play like on a phone. Approve the system VPN prompt on first connect; the tunnel then covers the device rather than just the browser.
Verify which one is doing the work
Run the IP checker after connecting. If it shows a VPNmine address in the browser but an app outside the browser still uses your own network, you are on the extension — by design.

Extension or Android app — which should I use?
The extension, if browsing is what you care about: it is lighter and installs everywhere. The Android app, if other installed apps need the tunnel too. There is no harm in having both installed; run one at a time.
Why can't I install it on my school or work Chromebook?
Managed Chromebooks let the administrator block extensions and the Play Store, and that policy wins. A VPN is not a tool for getting around your school's or employer's device management, and we will not pretend otherwise.
