Why Copenhagen
Copenhagen is where the Nordic networks meet the continent: the bridge to Sweden carries fibre as well as trains, the cables south run into Germany and the Netherlands, and the exchanges in the city, including the national DIX and a Netnod node, are where Danish, Swedish and German networks peer. Stockholm is 10 to 15 ms away, Hamburg and Amsterdam under 25, Oslo about the same, and London 20 to 30. For Scandinavia it is the exit with the shortest path to everywhere else.
Denmark kept retention
Unlike most of its neighbours, Denmark kept general data retention after the EU directive fell in 2014, and in 2022 it passed a new law that retains general and undifferentiated logging for a year on national-security grounds, alongside targeted retention for specific areas and people. That makes Danish providers among the more thorough loggers in the EU, which is worth knowing when choosing whether to trust the network or the tunnel.
