Why Amsterdam
AMS-IX is one of the two exchanges, with Frankfurt, that most of Europe's traffic passes through, and the Netherlands hosts a disproportionate share of the continent's server capacity for a country of its size. Dutch connectivity is unusually good in both directions: short hops to the UK, Germany, Scandinavia and Belgium, and mature transatlantic routes. If Frankfurt is busy or badly routed from where you sit, Amsterdam is the obvious second try.
A hosting-dense country, and what that costs you
The same density that makes Dutch routing excellent also makes Dutch address space extremely well known to the databases that classify addresses as datacentre or residential. A Netherlands exit is therefore among the more likely to be recognised as a VPN by services that care. That has no effect on privacy or encryption; it affects whether a platform that filters hosting ranges lets you in.
What the law requires here
The Dutch blanket retention law was struck down by a court in The Hague in 2015 after the Court of Justice invalidated the EU directive behind it, and the Netherlands has not reinstated an equivalent general obligation since. EU data protection law applies in full. As everywhere, the durable protection is architectural rather than jurisdictional: VPNmine stores which server a session used and when, and stores nothing about the traffic itself.
